Shawn Not Competing in 2009

As you all know Shawn told an interviewer she would not be competing in 2009. I'm not sure if she is 100% on that yet but It's her own choice if she does not want to compete. It would be a healthy choice to choose not to because she would get lots of time to slow down. I don't know so much for resting because she would have to practice a while before the competition.

Post your thoughts about this and tell me what you think she should do

I think it's very mature of her to make this decision. She realizes she needs to rest and I'm guessing she knows that school is defiantly something she must get started back into.

I kinda agree with Godfather.... although it's disappointing for us Shawn fans. I would like to hear her full reasoning behind it, though.

School is something she probably needs to focus on right now. She's in the eleventh grade and education in very important in those years.

I think Shawn should take a break from the spotlight and normalize a little. She'll most likely keep doing gymnastics during her off season but not as intensely. I think it's great that she wants to go to school, how many 16 year olds do you know that say that? During her junior year whether at school or being tutored, this is the year Shawn will be taking her SAT's (at least thats the grade you take them in NY) which will be really important to her since she's been looking at schools like Duke, Stanford, UCLA, and Yale.

As long as she doesn't regret this decision, I'm all for it.

Yeah, That's exactly what every 16 year old should do. Focus on school and let the other things be a second thing. Most of them choose sports over school which is fine.. if you can keep your grades up. That's what I'm doing this year. I'm really focusing on my hockey but I'm doing very well in school so far. I'm really strong in school though so that helps a lot too.

I actually want to get into Duke but my grades aren't very good since I don't really give 100% effort. My AP English teacher is just... I don't even know how to describe it, she's just ARGH! She's not mean or anything but all I can say is OH MY GOD! And my Spanish 3 teacher is just dumb as poop as pretty much any student she's ever taught thinks as well (let's just say that if I were put in Spain with nothing but the clothes on my back I would defiantly die), and don't even get my started about my stupid AP Chemistry teacher. He doesn't even teach us anything!!!!! ARGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

Sorry for that little episode. I just had to vent some anger. Anyways, my grades are in the low 80's I think or something which will defiantly affect my 94.###### GPA. I'm not sure if Duke will even consider me.

Congrats on the good score.

But, I do think that such school will probably accept Shawn over other people because of her title but I think Shawn wants to earn it without her fame getting in the way of it.

You guys might think I'm completely stupid for saying this. But I hardly know what SATs are! I have no idea if we have them in Canada and plus I go to a French school.

I don't think French has much to do with it. But I am pretty sure SATs are strictly a US based thing.

Don't worry Nicole SAT's are a U.S. test that most students take in their junior year of high school. It's what most colleges use to determine if a student coming from high school is "good enough" to attend their college. It's actually a really boring test to take and thank god more colleges will be accepting students based on high school grades than a single test (SAT's).

thanks Matt M! I really have no idea what schools I want to go to (I'm a junior), but I'm thinking small liberal arts school back East.

thats cool, I go to Stony Brook University on Long Island, it's anything but small lol. If you really wanted to, though this would be a little weird, with your high SAT score you could probably go to w/e college/university Shawn chooses.

I would probably go to another college after I graduate from the one Shawn goes to so I can study some in the art field at a school I want to go to. Actually I'm really not sure what I want to go to college for... maybe something in art, computer programming, or something in video game creation. I also like writing so maybe something in that as well.

Talking about schools.. got my half semester report card... 90 average WOOT WOOT!

lol I hope my report card is an average 80 or something. I'm failing Chemistry though... at least I think I am. Last time I checked it was in the low 60's. Maybe it's in the low 70's now. .... MAN I HATE CHEMISTRY! Or just my teacher at least. lol I would be getting a zero in that class since he doesn't teach us anything but thank god for cheating on tests. lol I usually just have my study guide in front of me while taking the test for the questions I can't do (even though the study guide doesn't even help me much). Hope I'm not a horrible person for cheating.
