As much as i like shawn, which is...well alot haha, i don't think i can rightfully call her the best american female gymnast of all time. She's amazing don't get me wrong, but i think it doesn't do other gymnasts justice to call her the best of all time. She's easily among the best however.

That's a fair argument... but I still (personally) think she's the best.

Yeah, of course she is... I wounder why exactly though.... Maybe it's the fact that she's so "child-like" (even though I'm only about a year older than her ), or that she's a small town girl who broke through the stereotypical thought that we all have at one point or another that "I can't do anything great" and actually accomplished something that most people can only dream about attempting/doing. It could even be the way that she acted and composed herself throughout the Olympics. Anyone else got any ideas?

Well, probably the fact that she's so childlike and cute, along with her infectious smile, won people's hearts initially, but her humble-ness and overall attitude throughout the Olympics were definitely a factor in keeping them. I don't know if Shawn is the best american female gymnast of all time (Shannon Miller, for starters), but I would agree with Dreydon that she is up there.

i would agree that her infectious smile and overall enthusiasm, in addition of her genuine and innocent love for the sport made her not only the most adored gymnast in america, but world wide as well.

As to WHY she's so popular, in my opinion it's because she has an AMAZING smile, and such beautiful eyes...........
oh, and it could have something to do with her talent, her down-to-earth attitude, her kindness, her infectious giggle, her openness, etc etc.
