Re: Noo! don't cry!
wow i just watched that video of shawn crying for the first time and now i wanna smack one of those reporters upside the face. they should have just stopped asking her questions after they saw she was getting emotional instead of saying "wow, you are very emotional" and then sticking the microphones in her face.

That's what reporters are like, they won't stop hounding people until they get a story or they provoke a response. Paparazzi are worse though, they basically get paid to stalk the celebritites

Yeah, I wouldn't like to be followed everywhere

I doubt Shawn likes it either. But it's another price she's willing to pay for the sport she loves. I'm not meaning to speak for her though, it's just a guess I have.
Re: Noo! don't cry!
that'd be a great job, being Shawn's spokesperson but I agree she loves her sport so much that being followed a lot is a small price to pay to compete at the highest level

When i watched that i was like are you kidding me. Her performance was ten times better, no contest. China = Lotto.

i thought that the chinese were over-scored on some of their individual routines... didn't a chinese team member fall on the vault and still got the bronze over asac?

Yea....she messed up the push off the vault and she fell on her landing which was supposed to be a 1.6 point deduction....and she still got higher then Alicia.

Re: Noo! don't cry!
that's what bothers me about gymnastics: someone can fall and still get a higher score than someone who doesn't. it makes absolutely no sense.

Re: Noo! don't cry!
Haven't they changed that now though? I mean people could go for a very hard routine and not do very well and still beat someone who hit an average routine near perfect

Re: Noo! don't cry!
sooooo....I just re-watched the video of the vault finals....and Cheng Fei got a 15.05 on a vault with a 6.6 start value and a deduction of atleast 1.6 points....meaning she couldn't get higher than a 14.9 wth?

Re: Noo! don't cry!
yeah it was ridiculous. i couldnt believe it when i was watching it. if you fall you should get a higher execution deduction imo.

Re: Noo! don't cry!
Yeah it killed me for her to fall in the team and then do a good vault and still get shafted by the judges. She deserved a medal and everyone knows it.

hopefully with the new code for this quad, something like the olympic vault event finals will not happen again.

We can only hope. I think that might have been more destructive than the falls, because she knew she did well enough to medal and they just didnt give it to her.

I remember running from one airplane to another stopping briefly to watch the gymnasts and seeing Alicia fall. It was so sad...

Re: Noo! don't cry!
i could not believe when she fell the first time. i thought that the US were going to get the gold, because the chinese had preformed poorly on the balance beam and the US had a chance to go in front, but then that happened. i felt really bad for her. she had waited so long for her chance to go to the olympics after not making it in 2004 when she was 16. plus, during qualifying she went outside the boundary on floor, so she was ineligible to compete in floor finals - an event that she had held a world title for in the past. overall i felt bad for her during the entire olympics

Oh wow i didnt know about the floor thing, thats shocking that they wouldnt let her compete just because she missed a step on one routine :/

i was so impressed with her frontflip onto the beam during qualifying, i thought she would have an awesome routine in the team finals

Yeah when i saw her mount when she fell i basically was like "no wonder she fell i dont know how anybody could land one of those" It is a pretty insane mount.

i've seen her land it before no problem, but i felt nervous for her the whole time while she was getting set for the mount.
