2009 Tyson American Cup

Has anyone heard if Shawn is planning on being at this event? I know she isn't participating, but thought she may show.

I would of thought she would make an appearance, even if it's just to cheer on the team. I don't know who's going to be on the team though, I mean Shawn, Nastia and Sam will all be busy with post-Olympic stuff so probably won't be ready to compete. They could bring in Bridget and Chelsie but that's still not enough

I saw the list of people, and don't remember any of the big names being there. I was just curious because it is being held about an hour from my house.

I should think that the Olympic team will go because they'll want to cheer on the team and get the praise of the crowd

yea i agree with you scrawney. if they don't compete, they're bound to spectate

The only one I know for sure should be there is Bridget Sloan.

Anyone hear anymore on this? I have seen a bunch of gymnasts doing appearances around here to promote it, but no Shawn yet. If you hear anything, let us Chicago people know! Thanks!!

Shawn isn't back at Chow's training yet so I get the feeling she will not be back in 09. I hope she eventually gets back into elite competition.

As for the Stanford thing, I have some thoughts on that, but I will post it in the discussion area later. They are very thrilling thoughts...you should all be excited

I still think she'll be there and if Bridget is going then Sam should be there too seeing as they're coached by the same guy.

I heard Shawn say in part of some interview after getting back from Beijing that if she decides to go for 2012 in London - that she would only want to train with Chow (and by implication Li) and she also said that would mean putting off college since she would have to stay in the Des Moines, IA area to train and not go to places like Stanford ... I only heard her say that once and forgot which interview it was in..... she could take a few community college classes along the way (so come 2012+ she would have a few credits built up toward the 120 most colleges require for a Bachelor's degree ... most will let you transfer up to 60 credits)

And farcemaster, I was hoping that she'd still train with Chow because I think if she went with someone else she would probably lose some of her passion for the sport so maybe she'll still do the community classes although she definately seems really into the idea of going to Stanford at the moment

The place where the American Cup is is literally like 5 minutes from my house, my friend can see it from his window! We had plans to steal the huuuge banner with Shawn on it, but those have come to rest. Anyone know if she is just going to be there? Like doesnt even have to be competing, but just at the competition? Could prolly get tickets for cheap but idk if its worth it.
