Re: Favorite Book
i was going to because a couple of summers ago we had to pick a book to read and then report on it when the semester started, i was going to pick that but went for 1984 instead, it was way too long for my liking.

Re: Favorite Book
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I read that book 3 times and it amazes me every time. lol it was also helpful that I read it before we had to read it in school so I could basically read whenever I wanted since I already read the book.
Re: Favorite Book
ah, I've never read Great Expectations. I saw the BBC adaptation a few years back and that was really good but when it came to our exams the teachers had to choose between Dickens or Shakespeare to study and they chose Shakespeare so I was stuck doing Romeo and Julliet, which wasn't that bad but a bit too romantic for me.

A good book is Of Mice and Men, a lot of people in my class didn't like it but I liked it because it had a lot of twists and turns along the way.

Re: Favorite Book
I had to do Romeo and Juliet as well. We watched just about every movie on it, acted out the play, read a bunch of stuff about it, and did tons of other things. Overall I think it was really just pointless. I can see the need to read Romeo and Juliet, as well as other classics, but enough is enough. We even watched the film of the modern day reenactment of R&J with Leonardo DiCaprio and it was the stupidest thing I've ever seen! EVER! One of the dumbest things I remember about it was when the part where Romeo gets told to "drawith thy sword" and draws his "sword", and it ends up being a gun with the word sword engraved in it. It was in all old English even though it was suppose to be a modern version of the story. Very dumb if you ask me.Scrawney wrote:ah, I've never read Great Expectations. Oh, I know, Godfather, that R&J movie was SO bad!! We watched it in English a couple of years ago. It was so stupid it was hilarious, like the part where Romeo yells up at the helicopters, "Tempt not a desperate man!". My whole class was laughing hysterically.
Yay Harry Potter! I love that series!

Re: Favorite Book
Luckily we never saw the dismal modern adaptation of R&J but I did see it on TV a couple of years back. I gave it a chance by watching an hour or so of it but it wasn't any good. I didn't mind doing R&J in the end because I got an A on the coursework but there were so many more interesting novels and plays out there that we could of studied.
Also, I agree with Tumbler and Reqiuem; Harry Potter is awesome

Re: Favorite Book
I've heard that from a lot of people, but I guess I never really had the time to sit down and read the 1000 page book. I will probably read it some time or another.
