Stanford...
Okay so as some of you may or may not have read, Little Miss Shawn is considering going to Stanford for college. My first thought it why are you going to move so much further away from me???? But then I realized, if she decides that she is going to go to the 2012 Olympics, there is no way she is going to move away until after them. I cannot see her leaving Des Moines and therefore having to get a new coach. It just won't happen. So I think she is either going to go to 2012 and put off college or if she goes to college she won't go to the Olympics again. What are your thoughts???

Re: Stanford...
Yea, I don't think she will go to college because of training, I think that's just where she would want to go.

Re: Stanford...
I'm hoping she leaves it till after the Olympics but if her training doesn't go well and she doesn't feel that she can get up to Olympic standard then going to Stanford would be the logical step

Re: Stanford...
you know how she says she wants to go there and coach for the gymnastics team? well it seems that stanford is either cutting funding or completely dropping some of their sports programs.
here's an article on it

is there a height requirement at Stanford?
maybe she won't go if there is a height requirement (JK) (although I heard she has grown either 1 or 2 inches since Beijing) ...

Re: Stanford...
I think she's 4 ft 11 now so she's nearly broken the 5 ft barrier .
If funding is cut for gymnastics that could mean that she doesn't go

Honestly, I don't think she would even go for gymnastics but for fashion (it was in an interview) because the Olympian Level is like 5 times better the the Collegiate Level.
Trust me, you just need to watch College Gymnastics one day, it's pretty bad.

I meant for her to coach the gymnastics team. If funding is cut for gymnastics they might not want to enter a gymnastics team into any competitions

She said in an interview that she'd like to do it but she could be talking about a couple of years into her course

Re: Stanford...
i personally wouldn't want to go to stanford. it's really selective and expensive so that means only the really bookish students are accepted or students whose families have a lot of money to afford it. but maybe that's the crowd shawn likes to roll with. the academics are very good so i understand why she'd want to go there
and i agree with Kyle Loves SJ, college gymnastics is not even comparable to elite gymnastics.

Re: Stanford...
Hopefully Shawn isn't like them but I guess it's just the college that suits her best. I think she'll try coaching the women's team there and use it as a stepping stone into coaching on the national team when she's older

Re: Stanford...
If she goes to Stanford, I am afraid she may get attacked by the tree!
Um....I would post the link, but I'm not sure it is appropriate for this site......
